Kids are capable of incredible things, even though adults can sometimes underestimate them.
One little boy in East Los Angeles reminded the entire world of that over the pandemic when he started his own business to help his struggling family. Naturally, he inspired thousands of people in the process.
The Innovative Idea an 8-Year-Old Came Up With
At the beginning of the pandemic, Aaron Moreno’s family was down to their last 12 bucks. He, his mother, and two other family members were living in a shed and struggling to make ends meet after his mother, Berenice Pacheco, lost her job.
According to an ABC news outlet, Aaron wanted to help, so the eight-year-old started his own business, Aaron’s Garden.

“He came [up] with the idea of selling plants and starting a business in his yard to be a provider, and [to] buy his own Hot Cheetos with cheese without having to ask his mom for money,” explained organizers in a subsequent GoFundMe campaign.
Aaron started with just eight plants, but business picked up immediately. Soon, between cash sales and the crowd-sourcing campaign, Aaron had a combined $31,000.
“I feel happier because we don’t have to struggle as much as before,” he told the ABC outlet.
How an 8-Year-Old’s Business Changed His Family’s Fortune
Soon, the family was able to move from their shed to an actual apartment. Pacheco found part-time work, and the family bought a car and furniture for their new place.
The financial help also meant they could bring Aaron’s sister, Ayleen Pacheco, home from Mexico, where she’d been living with her grandmother since 2018 due to financial struggles.
“I never thought we would accomplish and come this far…we couldn’t believe that we got a house,” said Pacheco. “I admire him for everything he has been able to do that I haven’t as a mom.”

“I’m just so proud of my brother because he was the one who got me back,” added his sister.
These days, Aaron’s Garden is still going strong. The Instagram account has more than 27,000 followers and the business has grown to include even more types of plants for sale. Shortly after the family moved into their new home, they converted the garage so Aaron could keep expanding on his venture.
“I think the best thing for me.. well, everything has been the best, but is that Aaron got to reunite us with his older sister with the money he received,” Pacheco reflected. “And he’s just been doing everything for us. He’s like the man of the house.”
